Busy Saturday

The day began with yet another track meet. Steve told Kel that if she didn't break 6 minutes she was sleeping with the dog! She does love her dog, but not that much. It was a very warm day in beautiful, scenic Rubidoux, CA. There were many more athletes at this meet than in the previous three. For some reason the schedulers moved the girls 1600m to the end of the race instead of the beginning. We weren't sure what time to get there so she wouldn't miss her race. The previous meets were over by about noon so we made sure we were there at 10:30 so she would warm up. She didn't run until 1:00. Jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt were way too warm for me :) She ran with the fastest of the two heats and finished at 6:19. That is 12 seconds off her previous PR. I was so excited. She was not as much since she really wants to break 6:00. I told her she is on her way to it and will do it during the season.

The second part of our fun filled day was spent with Amanda as she prepared for her Winter Formal. Her date and the other couple who they were going with were a bit late to pick her up, 30 minutes in fact. Patient Amanda was going CRAZY. She finally went to her room because she was tired of her mom, Jason, Steve, and I teasing her. She made her grand entrance when her date arrived and all her anguish melted away. They were headed to dinner at Red Lobster and then to the dance.

Tabby drew the "Get out of school early" card in the Monopoly game of life. I got a call from Steve on the school phone right after recess. He NEVER calls on the school phone. He says something about "broke", "Tabby cut eye", and "stitches". Of course I imagine the worst. Has her eye fallen out? Is she crying in the health office wanting her mommy? About an hour later (yes it took an hour) I arrived at her school. There she was with her eye bandaged eating popsicles with the health clerk. No tear, No "Mommy!", no nothing. Just a cut near her eye.  Apparently at recess, she and her friends were sitting on the grass when a classmate ran by. His knee made direct contact with Tabby's eye, knocking her glasses into her face. The fold at the temple is what cut her. I took her to urgent care where the doctor proceeded to glue the cut shut instead of stitching it closed. She said that the stitches would leave "hole" marks in her young skin. Our friend Karen recently had a surgery incision closed with glue so we were familiar with how it worked. After that we went to lunch and got her glasses fixed. She is a bit sore but is doing well. That card should be placed at the BOTTOM of the deck. I really don't like calls like that.

Run, Run As Fast As You Can

Today we were back to the track for another meet. After last week's fantastic performance Kel wanted to get close to 6:00 flat. After a short rain her race began. After the first two laps she was on a sub-six minute pace! She finished at 6:33, just about where she was the week before. Now she knows she has it in her to run a fast pace. Now we are looking ahead to next week and taking time off her race (I saw "we", but really "her"). We came home and took Jake, Tab, and Megan (Kel's friend) to Golden Spoon for a treat. I finished the day with a run around the loop. Still trying to get my hip back in order. Steve keeps telling me that my goal of a half marathon this year is out. Maybe in the fall....
UPDATE: Just looked online at the results and they have Kel clocked at 6:26! I hope that's accurate

Piano

Tab is determined to learn to play piano. We have been working through the beginner books since Christmas. She is very self motivated and will sit without being told to practice.....

Sleepover!

Since Monday was a holiday Jake spent Sunday night at a buddy's house and Tab had her friend over. They created homemade cards for each other, ate hot dogs, watched a movie, made a fort on the new bed, and that was just Sunday! On Monday they awoke early and played Polly Pockets, using pillow filler as "snow". That was fun to vacuum.

New Bed

Sunday brought Tab a new bed. She has inherited it from Grandma and Grandpa who inherited it from the Wold's. She is very excited to have a "big" bed on the bottom. She has been busy making special things for the bed, such as a holder for her glasses to put on the wall. Always thinking of something new!

6:31

Today was a busy day.  We began the day with a track meet for Kel. She ran the mile again. Her goal was to get down to 6:30 after her previous, and first, run of 7:00. She went out fast and just about made her goal She ran 6:31! We were so proud of her. She is now shooting for 6:25 for next week. She would like to get to 6:00 before track season really starts. The rest of the day was spend moving Dav & San. Boy are we pooped!

I finally learned!

Yes, that is a sewing machine Mom! Being the short-legged gal that I am, I have become very tired of trying to find jeans that fit in the length. The petite are too short and the regular are too long. What's a girl to do? How about FINALLY learn how to sew?! Tabby had  borrowed Grandma's sewing machine so she could learn to sew pillows for her stuffed animals. I decided to give it a try. I googled directions for hemming jeans and found an easy method. It only took me 4 tries of measuring, pinning, trying on, ripping out stitches, and beginning again. I am so excited! Have any jeans that need hemming? Send them my way!

Sat. Jan 10th Mile

Saturday was Kel's first track meet of the Winter track season. Anyone of any age could enter. Our friend's 5 year old ran the 100m and an elderly balding gentleman ran the 110m hurdles. We tried to get J and T to enter, but they chickened out. (Maybe the one in Feb.) Kel ran the mile for the first time. She looked great even though she ran with a terrible cold. She was coughing and sneezing all day. We are not sure of her time yet, but she looked great! The 800 was the other race she ran. She wasn't very excited and asked her coach if he was joking when he told her she was running it. That may have been the last time for that distance. That was my favorite when I ran!

Blast Off

Ok, so I'm a bit slow at getting my picture a day. It's actually beginning on January 9th. Not too bad. Jake was busy blasting off a rocket that he made at a GATE class. He and the neighborhood boys were launching it with a manual bike pump. They had a great time shooting it up in the air and trying to catch it as it landed.
